Drain work awarded for $266,000
Municipal project to be completed Nov. 30
MINTO – Listowel-based Hanna and Hamilton Construction Company received a municipal drain improvement contract for a tender price of $266,358 excluding taxes.
The municipal drain 95 tender results were presented at a Jan. 20 council meeting.
“Drain 95 went through the drainage act process in 2025,” drainage superintendent Ryan Binkle told council.
Six bids were received and reviewed by engineer consultant RJ Burnside and Associates Limited. The highest bid totalled $310,400 from Listowel-based Williams Drainage, with an August completion date.
Hanna and Hamilton’s completion date is Nov. 30.
The main drain works include:
- installation of roughly 2,000 metres of concrete tile and high-density polyethylene pipe;
- six concrete structures;
- a engineered berm;
- a directional berm;
- a surface water inlet;
- 366 metres of channel deepening;
- a stilling basin;
- a rock flow check dam; and
- removal of approximately 7,000 square metres of woodlot area.
Branch B of the main drain includes the installation of approximately 42 metres of concrete tile and one concrete structure.
Drain 95 currently features roughly 336 metres of open drain and 1,740 metres of closed drain. It affects eight Minto properties. The total watershed area contributing to the drain is about 155 hectares (383 acres).
“What was the engineer’s estimated cost for this project?” councillor Ed Podniewicz asked.
“It was in the vicinity of $310,000 so [the bid] was roughly 17 per cent lower than the estimate,” Binkle said.
The total project nkjcost is estimated at $600,000 with property owner allowances, report preparations/reviews, tendering, contract administrative work and engineering costs bumping up the price tag.
Council approved the tender award unanimously.
