Doris Ens recognized for volunteerism in Guelph-Eramosa

Rockwood resident Doris Ens received the 2018 Community Recognition Certificate from Guelph-Eramosa Township.

“Doris is a warm, caring individual and her commitment to volunteerism is an inspiration to the community,” Mayor Chris White said at the April 23 presentation.

“Doris, we are very lucky to have you as a volunteer with our township. We are very honoured to have you present with us to recognize this award.”

Among Ens’ many volunteer accomplishments is her work as a member of the Rockwood Lioness Club.

“She has tirelessly helped numerous community events such as the annual Christmas Bazar,” White said.

Ens is also a driving force behind the annual Good Brothers fundraising dinner and dance in support of Rockwood’s local team in the Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer. She has organized the event with her daughters for almost 10 years.

“This event has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research over the years and is a much anticipated and fun night out in the local community,” White said.

“For donations for prize baskets Doris personally visits many of the businesses in Rockwood which takes a lot of time and energy.

“At the end of the event each year Doris handwrites and delivers thank you letters to each of the businesses and each of the contributors to the event.”
