DEWITT, John Theodoor

Peacefully at his family home, on Friday March 12, 2021, with family around him, the Lord called home John Theodoor DeWitt at the age of 55. He will be remembered by his wife of 21 years Doris and his three sons Adam, David, and Sam. Beloved son to Albert and Baukje DeWitt, brother to David (Franziska), Lloyd (Christine), and Joyce (Larry). Uncle to Ida, Edgar, Seth, Madeleine, Sanne, Brittany, Megan, Justin (Nichole) and Maria. Son-in-law to Robert and Patricia Newhouse, brother-in-law to Robert Jr. Newhouse. Predeceased by his son Philip John DeWitt and mother-in-law Phylis Marie Sacco-Smith. In July of 2020, John was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer and proceeded with treatment throughout the later months of 2020. Between his Dutch-born stubbornness and chemotherapy he lived for another 9 months. He started working as a Mechanic in his younger years at Becker Automotive and later Dettmer Tire, both in Guelph. After many years working as a Mechanic he began his job as a welder/break-operator at Walinga Inc. up until a few days before his diagnosis. He was known as “Uncle John” not only to family, but to many other people and their kids. When he wasn’t telling dad jokes and fiddling with his computers, he was playing tricks on family friends’ kids, mainly “taking away” their noses. Throughout his entire life, John was an active member of the Canadian Reformed Churches and kept his Bible close and his belief closer. Donations to the Anchor Association in Beamsville are greatly appreciated by John’s family.
