Dear Editor:

On behalf of Belwood and District Lions, I want to thank the Advertiser for its continued support for our Belwood Lions Pike Derby, May 25 and 26.

For the third year in a row, we presented a cheque for $5,000 to the Groves Hospital Building Fund for the new building, which will open in 2020. As with all Lions events, all money less basic costs is returned to the community through donations.

Although the winning fish was small at 27.75 inches, 88 fish were measured and released during the two day event.

On our website www.pikederby.org/results is a list of adult and youth winners, as well as photos of participants during the event. One of our main objectives is to encourage youngsters to come fishing.

All children eight and under entered for free and all received a great prize. Their smiling faces are seen in many of the photos.

Our next derby, our 40th anniversary, will be held on May 23 and 24, 2020.

Gordon Hufnagel, Co-chair, Belwood Lions Pike Derby
