Daniel Lanois coming to Fergus
FERGUS – Daniel Lanois is coming to the Fergus Grand Theatre on Aug. 9.
He will perform music from his new album, Belladonna Nocturne, which was released June 19 on the label Arts Music.
Lanois has worked with big-name musicians from Emmylou Harris to Neil Young, in addition to producing his own music.
After collaborating with Brian Eno, Lanois produced a
suite of classic albums for the Irish rock group U2, including
The Joshua Tree (1987)
and Achtung Baby (1991).
Lanois was born in Gatineau and grew up in Ancaster.
As a young man, he purchased a home on Grant Avenue in Hamilton with his brother Bob that later became his famed Grant Ave Studio, where he recorded his work with Eno and many other musicians went on to record music.
Hamilton has been a source of inspiration for Lanois.
His new album Belladonna Nocturne returns to familiar terrain, to Belladonna, a previous disc by Lanois from 2005.
The album is a series of ambient instrumental pieces reminiscent of Lanois’ work with Eno and frequently features Lanois performing on pedal steel guitar, an instrument Lanois has played since his youth.
Belladonna Nocturne includes a series of impressionistic musical compositions with the pedal steel guitar a prominent instrument.
Lanois’ Fergus stop is one in a series of smaller Ontario cities, including Orillia, Sarnia and Prince Edward.
The Fergus Grand Theatre on St. Andrew Street is a historic venue with a maximum capacity of 250 people.
He will perform in a trio alongside musician friends Jermaine Holmes (drums) and Jim Wilson (bass).
