The gym at Elora Public School was turned into a dance club last Friday and everybody was dancing in support of the Centre Wellington Food Bank.

Organized by the school’s vice principal, Andy Hill, the dance-a-thon divided the day into thirds and the student population into three separate sessions for junior, intermediate and seniors.

“It’s all about getting the kids out there and getting active,” Hill said. “But the fact that we could turn this into an opportunity to have the students do good just makes it more fun.”

Hill explains the gymnasium was transformed by turning down the lights, projecting dance images from a video game on to the wall and turning the music up loud.

“It’s about having fun. It’s all for a good outcome,” Hill said.

Teaching the students about giving back to their community is an important aspect of the event and Hill said the Centre Wellington Food Bank was an easy choice to support.

“We had a feeling there is a real need in our area. We thought let’s put a twist on this dance-a-thon event to give back to our community and that the students at Elora Public School are behind their community.”
