CUDNEY, Mary Helenee (née Cardow)

Peacefully at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on May 27, 2026, Mary H. Cudney (née Cardow), born on May 15, 1938, passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Dan F. Cudney (1991), and later, a partner to Werner Blazjewski, who passed away in 2021. Cherished mother of Dennis (Diane), Steve (Colleen), and Stewart, all of Elora. Mary’s pride and joy was raising her three sons. She was a devoted and fun-loving grandmother to Daniel (Olive), Karen Marzano (John), Lauren (Kieran), Thomas (1990), Taylor (Mitch), Spencer (Nicole), and Andrew (Kelly). Mary was also delighted to have five great-grandchildren: Zaza, Milo, Hazen, Rory, and Brooke. Mary was predeceased by her siblings Earl, Albert, Bruce, and Lloyd, and her sister-in-law Althea Miller (née Cudney). While raising her family, Mary worked at Stillmeadow Farms and the Elora Furniture Factory. Mary was happiest when she was spending time with her family, gardening, on the dance floor, or visiting her friends on Kertland Street and at the Legion. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 229) and continued to volunteer well into her 80s. She will be sadly missed by many cherished friends and family members. Visitation was held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. A funeral mass took place at St. Mary Immaculate Roman Catholic Church, 267 Geddes Street, Elora, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 11:00am. A private family interment took place following the mass. Guests were invited to a reception at the Elora Legion, 110 Metcalfe Street, Elora, where the family joined them shortly after the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada or to the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 229) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
