Cox Construction applies to expand gravel pit
Cox Construction has applied to expand its Puslinch Pit on the south side of Laird Road near Pioneer Trail.
The notice of complete application and initial review of the application came to council on Jan. 4.
The amendment would rezone the property to an appropriate extractive zone category to permit the expansion of the existing Puslinch Pit now operated by Cox Construction.
Mayor Dennis Lever noted the Puslinch planning advisory committee intends to hold an initial review of the application on Jan. 23.
Lever asked that the original file on the application be brought to council at some point.
He explained that when he first saw the application, he wondered why the zoning was not extended with the initial application for the aggregate site. “I’d like to see what happened there - whether there were concerns - or why it wasn’t included.”
Councillor Wayne Stokley noted the property is designated as prime agricultural land - but the current zoning is agricultural.
Clerk Brenda Law explained the property is designated as prime agricultural under the official plan, which defines properties as prime or secondary agricultural land.
However, the township zoning has only one agricultural category.
