County’s home energy tool kit activity book wins platinum at MarCom Awards

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County has been awarded Platinum in the 2025 MarCom Awards for its home energy tool kit activity book.

To earn the Platinum status, Wellington County’s activity book scored between 90 to 100 points (out of 100) based on evaluation criteria including creativity, execution, message effectiveness and overall impact, officials say.

“This international recognition reflects Wellington County’s commitment to delivering innovative, high-quality solutions that create real impact,” said James Seeley, planning committee chair.

“Our team’s dedication to making energy efficiency accessible and engaging for residents has set a new standard for educational resources, and this award validates that exceptional work.”

The activity book is a key component of Wellington County’s home energy tool kit program, designed to help homeowners understand energy use, save money, lower their carbon footprint, and create healthier, more comfortable homes, officials say.

The workbook guides users through eight hands-on activities covering everything from mechanical systems to lighting efficiency.

“We spent nearly a year researching and developing the tool kit to put practical knowledge directly in homeowners’ hands,” said Karen Chisholme, climate change and sustainability manager.

“Receiving MarCom’s Platinum recognition from industry experts validates our approach and the countless hours our team invested in creating something truly valuable for residents.”

The award comes on the heels of the county’s recent collaboration with the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA), which is making home energy tool kits available to municipalities and home builders’ associations across Canada.

Since launching in March 2023, the 14 home energy tool kits available at Wellington County libraries have recorded 115 loans and earned a four-star resident satisfaction rating, officials say.
