County endorses Arnott's highway naming proposal

The County of Wellington has officially endorsed local MPP Ted Arnott’s campaign to have the local stretch of Highway 6 named the “Jack Jackson Memorial Highway.”

County council approved a recommendation from its roads community to support the initiative at its April 30 meeting.

Roads Committee chair councillor Gary Williamson explained province requires the initiative have the support of municipalities the highway passes through.

Johnson served as an MPP from 1975-1990. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of his first election and what would have been his 85th birthday. He was the first MPP to represent the riding of Wellington, which included the County of Wellington in its entirety. A letter from Arnott states he anticipates signage would be the only cost of the proposal and he plans to ask the transportation ministry to cover the cost. Lower tier municipal councils throughout the county have all supported the proposal.
