Council waits to recoup clean-up costs at store

It could be a while before Wellington North recovers the costs for the clean-up order at the Damascus Emporium.
At the Jan. 14 meeting, council reviewed minutes from the December building and property committee which reported the clean-up did take place in November.
The bill for that work was placed on the property taxes, but owners have until this March to pay the full amount.
In September, council adopted a resolution for a clean-up of the property following directions of the township solicitor in regard to a property standards order and how it could be enforced.
The order was for the front, rear, and side yards, as well as the area of the septic system to be fully cleared of "rubbish, debris, junk, objects, and conditions causing a hazard, and salvage items and materials."
An appeal to the property standards committee was unsuccessful.
