The search for a new Wellington North treasurer is moving further afield and will be assisted by consultant Nigel Bellchamber.
The process was approved by council at its Nov. 18 meeting after CAO Mike Givens reported previous recruitment efforts had been unsuccessful.
Givens was promoted to the CAO position after having served as treasurer and has been doing double duty for the township.
“After being appointed CAO I began the search for a new treasurer. As part of that search I reviewed resumes from other top candidates from the previous recruitment, ads were placed in the local Newspapers to satisfy requirements of the township personnel policy. Additionally, I tried to tap into my own network to try and get information out about the position,” Givens stated in his report to council.
“This approach resulted in only five applications. Of the five applicants, only one had municipal experience. I met with two candidates to discuss the position and then made contact with references for the candidates. Based on reference information it was determined that only one candidate was qualified.”
The candidate was offered the position, but turned it down, Givens said.
The CAO recommended a “more comprehensive recruitment process” involving Bellchamber, who knows the township’s organizational structure and has municipal experience.
Givens told the Advertiser the process would cost between $2,500 and $3,500 as part of the consultant’s involvement.
Givens predicted the process could see a potential candidate presented to council before the end of the year.
