Council endorses Mount Forest grant application for archives, museums
Councillors here are supporting a partnership with the Mount Forest Archives and Museum to seek more funds from the province.
Part of the township’s economic development committee had a memo from Wellington North’s Business Economic Manager Dale Small noting his forwarding of a package of information to the Mount Forest Archives and Museum.
The information pertained to the Museums and Technology Fund administered by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
Small said, “Since then, I have met with members of their committee to assist in putting the application together.”
The application, which meets the guidelines for the fund, will be in the vicinity of $10,000, and will consist primarily of the purchase of some computers, a scanner and related archive software.
As part of the application they also require a letter of partnership from the municipality.
Councillors quickly endorsed a motion, as recommended by the Business Economic Manager, to sign a partnership letter and apply for a grant to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Museums and Technology Fund.
Councillor Dan Yake called it “a great opportunity.”
He cited tremendous luck the group had obtaining a Trillium grant not too long ago.
“There’s a good chance of them getting this money as well. We certainly should support them,” Yake added.
