Council drops idea of a separate United Way

It looks like Minto will not pursue its own United Way chapter.

Council considered that idea, but after a presentation by the United Way, that does not seem possible.

If another resolution is brought to council, “it will be substantially different,” Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen explained. She recommended  council withdraw the motion.

Mayor David Anderson added the United Way operates in specified regions such as Waterloo, Wellington and Guelph and does allow other chapters to be formed within an existing region

“Theoretically, anyone can volunteer to donate towards the United Way, and the funds would be dispersed through that region,” he said.
