Council approves changes to public skating fees

ERIN –  This year’s skating season may look a little different as council has approved changes to public skating fees, bringing costs down and getting rid of the season pass.

This year’s prices for individuals will be $3 regardless of age and $5 for structured hockey ice, figure skating ice and families.

“We’re proposing a streamlined pricing model that reduces the fee categories and simplifies registration and cash handling for an improved customer experience,” said director of community services Chris Roos.

These changes will affect both the Hillsburgh arena and Centre 2000 in Erin.

“We are also proposing to replace seasonal passes,” said Roos.

Those wanting to purchase multiple skating sessions at once can now purchase a 10-ticket pass for $25 for public skating or $40 for shinny/stick and puck skating. These can be repurchased at a discount when they are depleted.

Roos says the town has also renamed “ticket ice” as there is confusion about what that entails. 

It will now be referred to as “figure skating ice” for figure skaters to practice routines and tricks. 

No pucks or hockey sticks will be allowed on the ice during these times.
