Council appears to have finally sold Murphy lands to Avila Investments

It’s finally a done deal.

“Great things are happening in?Wellington North,” said Mayor Mike Broomhead, as he recently announced the final sale of the property known as the Murphy lands to Avila Investments Ltd.

“We have been working with Avila since December 2007, when the proposed sale was first announced, to finalize the details of the agreement.”

Avila is also pleased with the deal for the property located at Highway 6 and Bentley Street, at the southern edge of Mount Forest.

A concept plan reflecting its vision of the land is complete and company representatives stated that it is committed to enhancing the community of Mount Forest.

The former farm property was originally purchased by Wellington North in 1998 to promote economic development.

At one point, the township rezoned the property to industrial to accommodate a prospective purchaser.

That deal fell through, and council later supported the rezoning of the property to accommodate Avila’s proposal of a mixed residential-commercial development.

At the initial announcement of the sale of the property in  2008, the property was valued at $1.4-million.
