Wellington North councillors have approved early concept plans for the Murphy lands at the south end of Mount Forest.

Those plans include a mix of single family residences, multi-family residences and some highway commercial development along Highway 6.

The approval followed an in-camera council session on April 7.

In January, Wellington North announced the sale of the 76 acre property to Avila Investments Ltd., of Georgetown for $1.42-million. The property is at the intersection of Highway 6 and Bentley Street, at the south end of  Mount Forest.

Wellington North council originally purchased the land to increase the municipality’s inventory of industrial lands.

The closed session was held because council dealt with the proposed sale of municipally-owned property.

The next step, said Mayor Mike Broomhead, is preparing an official plan amendment to switch the land from its current industrial designation, to one which will allow the multiple uses planned.
