Collapsed shed in Elora Greenspace to be demolished next year
Shed at the corner of Metcalfe and Mill streets collapsed last February
CENTRE WELLINGTON – It will be another year before the collapsed shed at the Elora Greenspace is demolished.
The township states in an Oct. 29 new release that it is continuing to work with Suncor, which owns the property, to coordinate permits and plans for the demolition.
The release states the demolition has been deferred to 2027, “to minimize disruption to residents, visitors and the many seasonal events taking place in and around Elora in November and December 2026.”
The shed, located at the corner of Metcalfe and Mill streets, collapsed on the afternoon of Feb. 24, 2025.
The structure underwent a structural assessment and has been deemed safe enough to survive this winter and next spring.
“Public safety remains the township’s priority as demolition plans are finalized,” the release states.
“The township’s role is to ensure the work proceeds safely, with all required permits in place and minimal disruption to the community.”
Once the shed is removed, “Suncor is working toward expanding the greenspace to provide more accessible outdoor space for residents and visitors to enjoy,” states the release.
