CLIFFORD – Santa Claus will make his annual trek to the community of Clifford on Nov. 29.
The parade is being hosted by the Clifford Firefighters Association, whose members will be collecting donations for the Clifford Food Bank along the parade route, Minto Fire administrative coordinator Stephanie Chidlow told the Community News.
The hour-long event is slated to begin at 7pm with line up at 6pm at the Clifford Fire Hall (2 Brown St. S.).
As no registration is required to participate, the association is unsure how many floats to expect. Last year’s parade had 23 in total.
Floats will begin at the hall, driving up Brown Street North to James Street East, left on William Street North, up to Elora Street North, then down Arthur-Kincardine Road to Nelson Street East and back down Brown Street to conclude at the hall.
“There is prize money for the first and second best float,” said Chidlow.
She added there is no parade theme this year.
“We have the Owen Sound Twirlets and the Minto Dance Academy attending,” parade organizer Mike Rock told the Community News.
“The Brussel Pipe Band may also be in attendance.”
He noted floats include local church groups, businesses and other organizations.
“A committee of firefighters plans and organizes everything from receiving donations from local businesses and/or community organizations, finding new and current float participants, as well as getting Santa himself there,” he said.
“All the Clifford firefighters come together the night of the parade to make it a success.”
After the parade attendees are invited back to the fire hall for photos and a visit with Santa and the firefighters. Free hot chocolate and hot dogs will be served.
Winter Magic Market
Those interested in getting into the holiday spirit before the parade can visit the Winter Magic Market hosted by the community-led group, Clifford Connects.
From 5 to 7pm, at the Clifford Community Centre (2 William St. N.), guests can enjoy a festive evening of holiday shopping with local vendors.
The market includes:
– horse and wagon rides outside the hall;
– family-friendly crafts;
– photo opportunities with characters; and
– an ugly sweater competition with prizes.
