Clifford’s first Halloween Harvest event slated for Oct. 25

CLIFFORD – A new Halloween event is making its way to the Clifford Rotary Celebration Square on Oct. 25.

It will be hosted by the Town of Minto and the Clifford Connects community-led committee.

From 5 to 8pm, Clifford’s downtown area (Elora St. S.)will be decorated to capture the essence of Halloween.

In past years the committee has hosted smaller events including a pumpkin carving competition, the Creatures of Clifford and encouraging residents to decorate their homes.

“The committee, volunteers and community seem to be excited about Halloween so we thought we could put together a bigger event and invite everyone down for free to enjoy some fun activities,” committee member Erin Raftis told the Advertiser.

The event kicks off with locals stuffing their faces during the pie eating contest at 5:30pm. Spots to participate are sold out, but guests are encouraged to watch and cheer on the fastest eater.

A glow party for all ages will begin when the sun goes down and guests will be handed glow sticks while they dance to tunes by local DJ Cody.

“There’s a costume contest with categories for kids, teens and adults so we encourage everyone to dress up and enjoy the dance,” Raftis said.

Costume winners will be announced at 7:45pm with Think Minto First gift cards and Halloween goodie bags up for grabs.

The harvest will be outdoors and vendors will be lining Allan St. E.

Guests are also encouraged to bring a pre-carved pumpkin to the event for another contest.

“Bring down an already-carved-at-home jack-o-lantern and drop it off at the event sometime between 5 and 5:30pm,” Raftis said. “Winners for that will be announced also at 7:45pm.”

Treats and games are to be expected, including a golf and corn hole game.

“The committee is really passionate about Halloween so they are really excited to decorate the gazebo … and bring a new activity to Clifford,” she said.
