Members of the Clifford Firefighters Association headed out on Oct. 14 to tidy along a stretch of Wellington Road 2 which the group maintains through the Adopt-A-Road program.
Going above and beyond, the firefighters have extended their route to include the stretch of road from the town limit sign on Mill Street to the start of the county road that was once adopted by the Clifford Girl Guides.
Firefighter Judy Dettman organized the event, which received overwhelming support.
Throughout the year, the firefighters continue their training and respond to numerous emergency situations. They also sponsor a number of events in the community. They will be organizing the Christmas Santa Claus parade with treat bags for the children. They invite curlers to enter their bonspiel. They cook and serve a spaghetti meal and look for donations for Camp Bucko, a summer camp for children who have sustained burns and need specialized care. They also support ongoing skating at the arena and organize a baseball tournament in June.
The firefighters are a part of the Clifford Fire Fighters Association. They open the fire hall to groups and students for tours and training. The Clifford Lions Club meets in their board room twice a month.
A partnership has arisen to allow the Clifford Lions to host their annual pumpkin carving contest at the fire hall. Children 12 and under may bring their pumpkins for display and a chance to win a prize.
