Classic Car Cruise ‘second lap’ to be held in Hillsburgh

HILLSBURGH – On Aug. 21, Let’s Get Hillsburgh Growing (LGHG) is running a Family Fun Day Classic Car Cruise event.

The cruise is a way to celebrate family fun day, while accommodating pandemic regulations.

This is the second year the event will be run.

It starts on Ann Street, goes around town and ends on Trafalgar Road near Wellington Road 22.

Line up starts at noon with rollout at 12:30pm. The route will take approximately half an hour.

The rain date is Aug. 28.

Councillor Jeff Duncan, who is also an event organizer, explained how the event came to be. For the past several years Hillsburgh has run a family fun day, but with planning logistics not panning out in time, alternative measures were taken this year.

“Nobody knew how things would fall,” said Duncan.

The car show was first run last year, with this year’s event being called the “second lap,” he added.

It’s a way to still celebrate family fun day despite this year’s limitations, with the goal to “bring the event to the community,” Duncan said.

He added residents along the route are encouraged to view the cruise, as last year there were quite a few people sitting out on lawn chairs to take in the event.

While this is a classic car oriented event, Duncan emphasized that “any make or model” is welcome.

There has been discussion of continuing the event in upcoming years, though nothing is certain yet.

A map of the route is posted on the Let’s Get Hillsburgh Growing Facebook page.
