Challinor elected GRCA chair; Watters elected vice-chair

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has a new chair and vice-chair.

JOHN CHALLINOR

Milton councillor John Challinor has been elected chair and Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters has been elected vice-chair.

Both Challinor and Watters were elected by the GRCA board of directors on Jan. 24.

Elections are held for both positions at the first board meeting of each year.

The 26-member GRCA Board is composed of representatives appointed by the municipalities within the Grand River watershed.

Challinor has served as a councillor for Milton for 22 years (1991 to 2006 and 2018 to present).

SHAWN WATTERS

He also serves the town as chair of its accessibility advisory committee and has been Halton Region’s representative on the GRCA board since 2019.

Watters has been a member of the GRCA board since 2022 and also served on the GRCA board from 2007 to 2010.

He was elected mayor of Centre Wellington in 2022 and has served on various local and county councils over the past 25 years.

Challinor replaces Chris White, who was elected as chair of the GRCA board of directors in 2021.

Watters replaces Sue Foxton, who was elected as GRCA vice-chair, also in 2021.
