Centre Wellington Singers accepting new members
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Centre Wellington Singers (CWS) is on the lookout for people who love to sing.
CWS is a mixed-voice community choir celebrating 30 years of singing together.
Over 50 singers from local communities come together once a week to share their love of music.
The choir performs two concerts per year, at Christmas and in the spring, and visits local retirement homes and community events to share seasonal repertoire.
CWS is directed by Melanie Steenburgh, a graduate of the University of Toronto’s faculty of music and faculty of education.
Steenburgh has taught music for over 15 years, performed for four years with the McMillan Singers, is a Royal Conservatory registered voice and piano instructor and an experienced choir and ensemble conductor.
She currently runs a music studio in Fergus and brings tremendous energy and enthusiasm to the choir, officials state in a press release.
Betty Weinstein returns as accompanist to the choir, a position she’s held for 24 years.
“We sing because it lifts our hearts, soothes our souls and brings us joy,” officials say.
“So why not join us and spend a couple of hours each week rediscovering the joy of singing?”
Registration nights for the next session are Sept. 8 and 15 starting at 6:15pm. Those who are nervous about joining are welcome to try the first session without obligation.
Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at 7:15pm at Hope Springs United Church in Elora.
The Christmas concert is slated for Saturday Nov. 28.
