Centre Wellingon council briefs: Township names new deputy clerk

ELORA – Centre Wellington council approved the appointment of Devlin Schellenberger as deputy clerk on June 24.

“This appointment will ensure Devlin, in his capacity as a legislative coordinator, has the proper signing authority and that continuous coverage is available to execute the statutory duties of the municipal clerk,” the report to council states.

There is no additional cost associated with the appointment, officials say.

Firefighters toll booth

The Fergus Firefighters Association will set up a toll booth on Tower Street in Fergus on Sept. 7 from 8am to 4pm, with proceeds going to Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Partial demolition

Centre Wellington council approved a couple of partial demolitions on listed properties at a recent committee of the whole meeting.

On June 17, and then again at the council meeting on June 24, council approved the partial demolition of a detached garage at 249 St. Andrew Street East in Fergus.

A barn at 226 Union Street East in Fergus was also approved for demolition.

Both properties will remain listed on the township’s municipal heritage register following the demolitions.

Noise bylaw exemption

Council approved a noise bylaw exemption for John Howie for 370 Thistle Street in Fergus on Aug. 17 between 11pm and 1am for a wedding reception.
