At a recent council session, Mayor Lou Maieron said “Celebration Erin is a concept the mayor has been discussing with various community groups and the town to organize the first set of annual Celebrate Erin events.”

The objective, he said, was to determine if there was any interest to organize such an event.

Another issue discussed was the possibility of awards for smaller groups, he said.

Council agreed to move forward with the concept.

Maieron said the first meeting was very well attended with about 25 participants.

He said subcommittees were created to deal with various aspects of putting such an event together.

Maieron also hoped there would be the ability to raise funds, such as for the local food bank.

“We’re trying to organize this to happen near the end of February or early March.”

He said that even the Family Day weekend could be considered “but nothing is set in stone.”
