Celebrate year of the horse at Erin fundraiser
ERIN – It is the year of the fire horse and the Erin Agricultural Society is inviting everyone to honour horses with its fundraiser and movie night on April 1.
Hosted in the Centre 2000 Theatre, this year’s feature film is Ride Like A Girl.
Based on the true-life story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup, it is an up-close look at the thrilling sport of thoroughbred racing and a heart-warming family story suitable for all ages, officials say.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be directed to the Erin Agricultural Society’s Horse Heritage activities, including the annual awards, the Equine Tent at the Erin Fair and the creation of a horse heritage archive on the Erin Fair website.
Attendees who arrive early will have time to take a closer look at the special Year of The Horse display of hand-crafted horse-drawn models, connect with Hall of Fame Award inductees, visit equine partner booths and catch up with horse friends.
Following the feature film, special guest Vicki Pappas, the chairperson for Longrun Thoroughbred Retirement, will answer questions and share her passion for thoroughbred racing, re-training and adoption of horses following their racing careers.
Doors open at 6pm for the reception and social, and the film will starts at 7pm.
Admission is $15 and includes the movie, hot popcorn, a drink and a chance to win a great door-prize. Tickets are available at Sharpe’s Farm Supplies in Erin and at erinfair.com.
