Of Palmerton passed away peacefully at the Palmerston and District Hospital on Thursday, April 16, 2026 in his 84th year.  Dear son of the late Mac and Valda Carnahan.  Brother of the Mark and Brenda Carnahan of Thamesford and  predeceased by his siblings Laraine, Carol, Bob and Bruce. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends. Jim took interest in the newspaper business at a young age and joined the staff of the Palmerston Observer, learning the journalism trade under publisher and editor Art Carr where he became assistant editor. When the Observer was sold to Laverne Long in 1977, Jim was named editor. He was a regular fixture in the community where he would be seen with camera in-hand covering various events for the weekly paper. After many years at the Observer that saw the paper winning provincial newspaper awards and accolades for Jim’s fair and balanced coverage of Palmerston Council meetings, he left the paper in 1984 to try his hand at a new vocation, entering the hospitality business. Jim and a business partner operated a restaurant in the Meaford area for a period prior to returning to Palmerston at the Ranton Place restaurant and hotel. He was there for many years, often working behind the bar at the Ranton Place lounge, until his retirement when the business was sold. To honour Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place followed by interment in Palmerston Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Heritage Funeral Home,
