When it comes to the impact of the Cambridge official plan, it will be Wellington County, not Puslinch council that will undertake any review.
The issue came up on June 1 as Puslinch councillors reviewed coming public meetings on the city’s official plan.
Initially, councillor Wayne Stokley wondered if councillors would receive copies of that plan for review.
Clerk Brenda Law said a full draft would be available at the end of June. Those documents will be available for online viewing at www.cambridge.ca/officialplan.
Stokley wondered if council should be considering parts of the plan that could affect Puslinch.
Law said that is something that Wellington County will look after.
Mayor Dennis Lever explained that Puslinch does not have an official plan of its own.
He added, “The county planning department would do any reviews on our behalf.”
Stokley said that last year he had been part of a group considering the city of Guelph official plan.
Law said that in regards to Cambridge, she is unsure how much more the city could develop on its side of the boundary. “It’s pretty much filled in or already designated.”
Lever said as an aside, that Wellington County intends to appear as a party in the Ontario Municipal Board hearing regarding Waterloo Region’s official plan changes.
That plan was sent to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, but the ministry sent it back with changes.
“The region is not happy with the changes made by the ministry,” Lever said.
He added the county will be acting on Puslinch’s behalf in regard to aggregate issues and other issues Wellington and Waterloo wanted to pursue and the Ministry said, “No”.
