Wellington County council has awarded the right to build the county archives addition to the museum in Aboyne to Collaborative Structures, of Cambridge.

Council approved the recommendation from its Information, heritage, and seniors committee on May 28. The cost of the work is $3.165-million, and that includes PST at 8%, and does not include the 5% GST.

The project will include the demolition of the current Ministry of Agriculture section of the museum building, a new archives building, renovations to Aboyne Hall, including facade and interior renovations, and the installation of one elevator. The committee received eight submissions, and they were close in the bidding. the highest bid was from Dakon Construction Limited, Waterloo, for 3.461-million.

There were a number of separate pricing requests and all of the bidders took those into account. All bids were in order. The bid by Collaborative Structures Limited was the lowest and it was approved by council.

Committee chairman Brad Whitcombe told council that he is pleased with the results and recommendation. He noted the county let tenders at the right time and “we got good prices.”

He added that county councillors will be familiar with the winning bidder because Collaborative Structures renovated the former Guelph post office for the county a few years ago.
