GUELPH – As guest curator for Guelph Dance’s Screen Dances Series, Aria Evans is curating seven individuals or collectives from Southwestern Ontario to create an original dance film for exhibit online.

Artists will receive a total budget of $2,000. Three dance film development workshops will be available leading up to the film delivery date to support development of the work.

Evans is looking to program short (five to 10 minute) dance films of all genres that highlight different voices, bodies, and life experiences and address the intersections of movement and media to represent the diversity of what is colonially known as Canada.

Guelph Dance welcomes a wide spectrum of filmmakers – students and professionals – from low budget to large-scale productions, alternative and independent films.

Any subject may serve as inspiration and the organization invites any dance form(s) – social or street dance, dance in religious or spiritual settings, codified dance, or non-dance images filmed – so that they evoke dance, choreography, and movement in imaginative ways to apply.

The submission deadline is Dec. 16 at midnight. All submissions will be responded to. Artists or collectives chosen to participate will be notified by Jan. 10.

To submit, complete the Google form available on the Guelph Dance website.

If applicants have any questions or if completing the application creates any kind of barrier, contact Guelph Dance at guestcurator@guelphdance.ca.
