ERIN – Town councillor John Brennan has introduced a notice of motion directing staff to investigate alternative gravel pit rehabilitation methods.

His motion calls for staff to conduct research, review input received from the public and consult with the appropriate provincial ministries to identify any alternative methodologies that may be available to support future pit closures and rehabilitation efforts.

The motion comes after much discourse regarding the approved Hillsburgh gravel pit in-fill project. The Erin Citizens Coalition (ECC) and other members of the public have strongly opposed the project for nearly nine months, asking council to rescind its decision.

Brennan’s motion states that due to “the number and age of existing gravel pits within the town, similar circumstances may arise in the future.”

Council will consider the motion on  June 11.
