Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance looks back on busy winter season

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance have been spending their winter busy with competitions.

On Jan. 31, dancers competed at the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance Milton Festival. 

In the primary six years, Finleigh MacLeod placed fixth in Pas de Basque and sixth in Pas de Basques and High cuts. 

In the beginner nine years and over, Ziva Sobol placed second in Seann Truibhas, fourth in Fling and sixth in Seann Truibhas. 

In the novice 10 and under 12 years Scarlett Jackson and Harlyn Heathers competed, Jackson placed third in Fling, Sword and Seann Truibhas. 

In the novice 12 years and over Jackson placed fifth in Sword. 

In the intermediate 13 years and over category, Cayley Simpson, Brooke Bailey and Maribelle McBroom placed. 

Simpson placed second in Fling, third in Seann Truibhas, and fifth in Sword and Bailey placed fourth in Fling, and sixth in Sword and Seann Truibhas.

On Feb. 14, dancers competed at the Highland Dancers’ Association of Ontario (HDAO) Winter Highland Competition in Vaughan. 

In the novice 10 years and Over Jackson placed sixth in Lilt. 

In the intermediate 12 years and Over Simpson placed fourth in Sword, and fifth in Fling, Seann Truibhas and Lilt.

On March 7, 12 Blue Bonnet dancers competed at the Western Ontario Highland Dancers Assocation (WOHDA) Tri-Cities Competition in Guelph. 

In the primary six years category Aeline Riehl placed sixth in Pas de basques and Pas de basque and High cuts, MacLeod placed fifth in Pas de basques and High cuts. 

In the beginner nine and under 11 years category Finna Hammond and Xara Sobol competed, Sobol placed fourth in Lilt, fifth in Fling, and sixth in Seann Truibhas. 

In the beginner 11 years and over, Ziva Sobol placed third in Sword, and sixth in Lilt and Fling. 

In the novice 14 years and over category Jackson placed third in Sword, and sixth in Lilt. 

Kaiey Eisen, and Brianna Berry performed in the Demonstration portion of the competition. In the intermediate 11 and under 14 years, Jackson, McBroom and Simpson competed. 

Jackson placed sixth in the Strathspey and Half Tulloch and Simpson placed third in Strathspey and Half Tulloch and Fling. 

In the intermediate 14 years and over, Brooke Bailey placed sixth in Hornpipe.

On March 14, dancers competed at the HDAO Spring Highland Competition in Vaughan. 

In the beginner 10 years and over category Ziva Sobol placed fourth in Lilt, fifth in Fling and Seann Truibhas.

In the intermediate 12 years and over category Jackson placed fourth in Sword, fifth in Strathspey and Highland Reel, and Fling and sixth in Seann Truibhas.

Simpson placed third in Seann Truibhas and Strathspey and Highland Reel, McBroom placed sixth in Fling, Sword, Strathspey and Highland Reel. 

Lastly, Jackson won the Intermediate scholarship.

On March 21, McBroom competed at the Montreal Highland Dance Association March Open Competition in Montreal. 

In the intermediate 13 years and over category she placed fifth in Half Hullachan.

On March 29, dancers competed at the WOHDA Amethyst Pre-Premier Competition in Guelph. 

Dancers competing included Finna Hammon, Isley Sy-Green, Harlyn Heathers, Ziva Sobol, Scarlett Jackson, Maribelle McBroom, Cayley Simpson and Gabby Jackson. 

In the beginner 10 years and over Sy-Green placed first in Fling, fourth in Sword, fifth in Seann Truibhas, and sixth in Flora. 

In the novice 10 and under 12 years category Heathers placed fifth in Seann Truibhas. 

In the novice 12 years and over category Ziva Sobol placed fifth in Sword. 

In the intermediate 11 and under 13 years category Scarlett Jackson placed fifth in Flora. 

In the intermediate 13 years and over category McBroom placed fifth in Sword, and Cayley placed third in Flora and Sword, fourth in Fling, and sixth in Seann Truibhas.
