BLACK, Gilmour “Gil” Robert,

88, of Fergus, Ontario, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 31st, 2021. Dad can now join his forever love, Ethel, who passed away Thursday, October 6th, 2017. Our father was never quite the same after Mom passed and he missed her dearly. Even though his heart was broken, Dad never complained and despite various medical issues, remained the strong, loving, kind and dependable father to his family. Gil was proud father to Karen (Erik), Brian (Brenda), Steve (Carol), Mark (Tracy) and Morgan (Julie). Dad was also the cherished Grandpa to 16 beautiful grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Predeceased by siblings Cyril and Fredda. Dad met Mom in Ottawa, Ontario in 1953 and it was there they began their 63-year journey in life. Our father was loving, generous, strong and always there for us. Dad was a hardworking man and forged his path in life by being a dedicated family man who provided very well for his family. Mom and Dad were a team and sacrificed often to ensure those closest to them were loved and always safe. Even after their own children were grown and raising their own families, our parents took up fostering children in need through the Children’s aid in both Alexandria and Fergus, Ont. We are saddened by the loss of our father but the pain is eased knowing that Mom and Dad are together again and can carry on as one in the afterlife. Special thanks and love to our sister Karen and husband Erik, niece Lindsay and brother Steve who lovingly cared for our father after Mom passed. Also thanks to Dr Easterbrook of Fergus who took very good care of our parents during their living years. There will be a celebration of Dad’s life to be held at a later date. Donations in Ethel and Gil’s name can be made to the Children’s Aid Society in Guelph, Ontario. Arrangements entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
