Biomass future discussed by Minto
Biomass may be the the way of the future - but apparently not quite yet.
Deputy-mayor Judy Dirksen attended a recent biomass workshop held in Palmerston with a guest speaker from the University of Guelph.
She said biomass uses plants to create energy.
She said a professor from the university talked about four different crops that could be used.
“I know there’s been some interest from the agricultural people in Minto,” she said.
She noted a lot of the time, the crops are grown on secondary agricultural land.
“The upshot of the whole thing is that right now it’s not cost effective ... but it might become that way. It was interesting and it might be something we will be encouraging them to do,” she said.
