He was a beloved friend to Brian Smith, Norm & Dianne Tytler, his Terpstra family and so many others. Also survived by brother Jim (Dianne) and family; sisters Lynne Towriss and family and Leanne Smith (Wayne) and family, brother-in-laws Larry and Budd and their families; Aunts Jean Peeters and family; Marabelle Goodfellow and family; cousin Wayne (Liz) Robson and family. He was predeceased by his father Bill (William) Beatty, step-father Jack Markle, brother-in-law Ricky Thacker, father-in-law Gary Thacker and granddaughter Annabelle Beatty. Doug was a friend of everyone he encountered, his natural curiosity and welcoming manner inviting all into his circle. Doug lived a life filled with laughter and love and brightened even some of our family’s darkest days with his love and mischievous nature. He liked to play the clown but his heart knew no limits, and he always strived to help others and lighten everyone’s load to make the world a better place for all who crossed his path. He was a connoisseur of baked goods and hidden gems and he and Cindy had many fun filled adventures based on his favourite spots or Facebook marketplace finds. His pride of his family knew no bounds, and he was there to celebrate every success large and small. He grew his small side business Doug Beatty & Sons into a strong and successful business and served generations of customers over time. They were always more than just customers to Doug, watching as their families grew and he arrived for annual updates and visits he remembered all the stories and treasured them, often sharing them in his recounts to Cindy of his day. Thom will be proud to carry on the family business and honour his dad’s memory in his own caring manner. Doug was a hands on and full time Dad and a maker with an inventive nature He worked with Luc to create many devices to reach beyond the limitations of everyday life removing many barriers. They shared their devices with many other amputees over the years. Doug was involved in every way with his family, coaching all three children in their numerous sports and even learning to play hockey himself, not well maybe, but with full hearted zest! In recent years Doug discovered an artistic interest and had such plans for many sculptures, we will treasure those that he completed. He provided great amusement to the children in his surprise lawn decorations and interesting creations. Doug’s laughter and zest for life brightened the world, he liked to play the clown, but his heart knew no limits, he tried to help everyone he met and make the world a better place. It’s impossible to sum up the impact and life of a man who made so much of an impression on his family, friends and community of customers. His loss will leave an enormous hole in the lives of those who knew, loved and respected him. He made friends wherever he went and no one could ask for a better friend than Doug.
