FERGUS – The Centre Wellington Black Committee is presenting its Awakened Voices Narratives on Feb. 28 at Melville United Church in Fergus.
The initiative is part of Black History Month and features narratives about significant historical Black figures and their achievements.
Performers include:
– Carlos Morgan, a multi award winning singer, songwriter, music history educator and actor;
– Kevin heron Jones, a poet and author;
– J. Nichole Noel, a singer, author, and storyteller; and

“These talented artists will bring to life the narratives of iconic Black figures such as Levi Carroll, Chloe Cooley, John “Daddy” Hall, Lucie Blackburn, Richard Pierpoint and many more,” officials state in a press release.
The show “is a celebration of the resilience, creativity, and achievements of the Black community. Through these powerful stories and performances, we aim to honour our past, inspire our present and pave the way for a brighter future,” said Millicent Gordon, founder of the Centre Wellington Black Committee.
The performance is free thanks to a grant from Canada Heritage but donations are welcome.
