‘Appalled’

Dear Editor:

RE: “Different messaging,” page 40, March 19.

We are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, which is causing untold suffering and death worldwide. The future is uncertain. It is a time for compassion, patience and understanding.

I am shocked and appalled by the photograph you printed depicting a sign blaming another country for this outbreak. The picture is at best incredibly insensitive, and at worst overtly racist. To publish this picture without editorial condemnation is in my opinion, irresponsible.

I urge you to promote social tolerance as well as social distancing.

Joanne Willoughby, Elora
