And Then What Happened: A Black History Month event at the Fergus Grand Theatre
CENTRE WELLINGTON – Guelph-based performing artist, historian and educational speaker Tracy Lee is bringing And Then What Happened… Black Canadian History – the untold stories to the Fergus Grand Theatre on Feb. 23 at 2pm.
Born and raised in Brantford, Lee has made Guelph her home for over 20 years.
She is a proud fifth generation Black Canadian with ancestral roots in North Buxton, the Queen’s Bush settlement and the St. Catharines/Niagara/Brantford area.
She has been performing on stage since the age of three and continues to be a featured soloist in many musical reviews, festivals, community events and musical theatre, landing major roles such as Aida in Aida, Matron Mama Morton in Chicago with Theatre Ancaster, and Motor-Mouth Maybelle in Hairspray at Centre in the Square in Kitchener.
She was last seen on the Fergus Grand Theatre stage in the post-pandemic comeback show All Together Now.
In her solo show And Then What Happened…, she combines the work of genealogists, historians, and years of research into a story of how her ancestors came to Canada via the Underground Railroad, in a story brought to life through music, storytelling and a keynote presentation.
“Stories like these need to be told,” says theatre coordinator Eric Goudie. “Now more than ever.”
