Adoptable pets from northern Ontario coming to Fergus
FERGUS – Up to 20 pets, including adult dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are travelling from North Bay to Fergus next weekend in search of their forever homes.
The North Bay and District Humane Society is transporting six to 15 dogs and puppies, and about eight cats and kittens to the Fergus Pet Valu (900 Tower St. S.) for an adoption event on Sept. 12 and 13.
“One of our primary goals is to ensure every healthy, adoptable animal has an opportunity to find a loving home as quickly as possible,” said humane society executive director Liam Cullin in a news release.
The event runs from 9am to 5pm on Sept. 12, and 10am to 1pm on Sept. 13.
There will be a food truck, face painting and staff from the Fergus Veterinary Hospital on site Saturday.
The animals are vaccinated and spayed or neutered. They will travel in an air-conditioned, 24-foot trailer that can carry up to 45 dogs or 75 cats, the news release states, adding the trailer was purchased with $131,000 in Pet Valu sponsorships in 2018 and 2024.
The final pet count will be set the day before the transport leaves North Bay.
Adoptions “create much needed space” shelters, said Fergus Pet Valu owners Greg and Nina Querin.
