$7,000 hydro bill for old arena confuses council members

A $6,961 hydro bill from Wellington North Power for the old Mount Forest arena has councillors here puzzled – especially since nothing is supposedly happening in the building.

The question came up in a review of the accounts at council on Monday night when councillors saw the December bill for the arena.

Councillor Ross Chaulk asked why there would be a bill  for the old arena. Chaulk said he could not see that size of a bill for a building not in use.

All activities are happening at the recently opened Mount Forest Sportsplex.

Councillor Dan Yake was also uncertain what was going on.

Clerk Lori Heinbuch wondered if the bill was an estimate rather than an actual cost.

But councillor John Matusinec said Wellington North Power does its billing for the arena based on actual costs.

“That better be checked out,” Matusinec said. “Something may still be running.”

“There shouldn’t be anything in there,” contended Chaulk.

Yake said council would look into the issue.

Another hydro bill under discussion was for the South Luther Hall. Councillor Bob Mason brought up that account.

Heinbuch said that bill should be transferred to the new owners – Friends of the South Luther Hall.
