Wellington North council has approved a bid for the Cork Street sewage pumping station in Mount Forest.

Of the 26 tenders taken out by potential bidders, only six were returned for consideration.

Though the difference between the high and low bids was roughly $600,000, the lowest three were within about 13% of each other.

The lowest bid, $1,011,150, was from Baseline Contractors, of Waterloo.

A report from Manager of Public Works Gary Williamson noted that subsequent to the construction of a test pit for the wet well on Dec. 3, the geotechnical consultant raised a concern that some of the site soils may be in a disturbed state as a result of previous contamination clean-up work.

He stated that if there are disturbed soils, that could result in a claim by the contractor.

He added that needs to be dealt with prior to a formal award of a contract.
