Woman dead, two injured after crash between SUV, tractor trailer

NORTH PERTH – A Caledon woman is dead and two others were seriously injured following a crash between an SUV and a tractor trailer here on Monday.

Emergency crews responded on Aug. 10 at about 6pm to the collision at Perth Road 140 (Wellington Road 9) and Perth Line 91 in former Wallace Township.

Police say the tractor trailer and SUV collided at the intersection, located southwest of Teviotdale, and three occupants of the SUV were seriously injured.

A passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at scene, while the other two occupants of the SUV were transported to the Palmerston hospital with serious injuries.

The deceased woman was later identified as Girga Persaud, 55, of Caledon.

The driver of the tractor trailer fuel truck, which came to rest upside down in the ditch, was not injured.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the tractor trailer, which was hauling fuel, had been travelling westbound when it struck the SUV, which had been travelling northbound,” police stated in a press release.

“The intersection is controlled by a stop sign in the north and south directions.”

The cause of the collision is currently being investigated by OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Perth County OPP officials are asking anyone that may have witnessed the collision to call 1-888-310-1122.
