Who makes the best cocktail in Fergus? You decide

FERGUS – As a kick-off to the Fergus Sip and Shop starting on Nov. 24 through to Dec. 2, the Outpost Bottle Shop, in collaboration with the Fergus BIA, will be holding the inaugural Fergus cocktail competition.

Participating bars and restaurants across downtown will present their own special curated cocktail and patrons will have a chance to vote on their favourite drink.

There will also be “mock-tail” (alcohol free) options so everyone can enjoy a drink and vote for their favourite.

Cocktail competitors include The Outpost Bottle Shop, The Goofie Newfie, The Breadalbane, The Brewhouse on the Grand, Beers N’ Cheers and The Vault Café Bar.

Patrons who want to vote must do so by Dec. 3.

Ballots can be picked up at any of the participating venues or by emailing outpostbottleshop.events@gmail.com.

“We are very excited as a new business to be organizing an event that brings not only the community of Fergus together, but also some of the businesses of the downtown core,” said Araya Hill, one of the owners of the Outpost.

“This is all in good fun and we hope to create a new annual tradition for people to look forward to.”

The winner of the cocktail competition will win bragging rights and an engraved trophy that they’ll keep it in their bar until next year.

“I think there is something special about being able to share in what seems like a silly plastic trophy, but it goes beyond that,” Hill said.

“There’s more meaning to it … it’s a sense of belonging and coming together as a small town. It’s the bigger picture.”
