Wellington OPP officer charged with breach of trust, attempted obstruction of justice

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A Wellington County OPP officer faces four charges following an internal investigation into his conduct.

Provincial Constable Sukhvinder Singh Toor was charged with breach of trust, attempt to obstruct justice, interception of a private communication and disclosure of private communication.

The 14-year veteran officer, stationed primarily in the Erin area of south Wellington, was charged and suspended from duty following an investigation by the OPP’s Professional Standards Bureau, police announced on Feb. 13.

Toor is to appear in Guelph court on March 20.

OPP officials would not confirm if the charges are tied to seven ongoing Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigations of alleged sexual assault involving a Wellington County OPP officer.

“I can’t talk about the specifics of the investigation, as it’s ongoing,” stated Derek Rogers, the West Region OPP’s media relations coordinator.

“I can tell you the SIU is no longer engaged in this investigation, which is now under the carriage of the OPP Professional Standards Bureau.”

West Region Sergeant Laura Lee Brown told the Advertiser on Feb. 11 the OPP was “conducting a parallel investigation” of at least one of the SIU’s alleged sexual assault cases.

According to the SIU website, the only ongoing SIU investigations involving the Wellington OPP branch are the seven alleged sexual assaults.
