Wellington North pleased with board”™s support of Kenilworth school

A News release issued by Wellington North Township on behalf of Mayor Andy Lennox and council states the recent decision by the Upper Grand District School Board’s business operations committee shows that local voices have been heard.

At the Feb. 10 committee meeting, the majority of trustees supported the recommendation of the Wellington North Accommodation Review Committee to keep Kenilworth Public School open and complete the back log of maintenance work at the school.

The release stated the Township of Wellington North acknowledges that the future ratification of this recommendation is a huge victory for Wellington North for three major reasons:

1. Continued investment in our community infrastructure and local jobs.

2. Enhancing the atmosphere in the hamlet of Kenilworth.

3. Recognition by the Upper Grand District School Board of the unique role that a small/rural school plays in the community.

Wellington North council acknowledged the efforts of all the members of the Accommodation Review Committee, parents, teachers, community members and students who “worked diligently” to present and protect the interests of Kenilworth Public School during the accommodation review process.

“Clearly the trustees of the Upper Grand District School Board have heard the message that there is significant value in providing education in a rural atmosphere,” states the township in the release.
