Wellington North closing all municipal facilities, playgrounds

KENILWORTH – Wellington North has joined the list of local municipalities closing its facilities to the public.

In a March 16 press release, Mayor Any Lennox announced the following facilities would be closed that day at noon: the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex, Arthur and Area Community Centre, Arthur and Mount Forest fire halls, Damascus Hall, the Arthur Seniors Hall and the Kenilworth municipal office.

Then, on March 18, the township announced the closure of all township playgrounds and the cancellation of the March 23 council meeting.

“As our nation responds to the developing situation COVID 19 pandemic, our first priority is to take actions that, to the best of our knowledge will help keep members our community safe while ensuring that essential services are protected,” stated Lennox.

“We rely heavily on the advice and information provided by our federal, provincial and local public health professionals.”

Wellington North officials had previously asked residents to use the internet or telephone whenever possible and eliminate non-essential visits to municipal facilities.
