Wellington County municipalities set to receive almost $6 million through OICIF in 2020

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Municipalities in the county will receive nearly $6 million through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) in 2020.

Province-wide, the fund will provide about $200 million to 424 small, rural and northern municipalities to assist with core infrastructure projects and asset management planning.

“Our government is investing in community-based infrastructure projects that will build healthier and safer communities,” said Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott.

“This funding builds on our ongoing commitment to support small, rural and northern municipalities.”

Money is distributed through OCIF on a formula-based, as opposed to application based approach.

“OCIF is an excellent example of the stable, predictable infrastructure funding small and rural communities need to help sustain and develop local communities and economies,” said Jamie McGarvey, president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

He added, “The announcement of 2020 OCIF allocations is timely and much appreciated.”

Under the program the County of Wellington will receive $1,863,466 in 2020. Lower tier municipalities will receive:

– Puslinch, $168,923;

– Erin, $260,016;

– Mapleton, $399,840;

– Guelph-Eramosa, $445,088;

– Minto, $506,543;

– Wellington North, $1,039,783; and

– Centre Wellington, $1,271,559.
