WEB ONLY: 4-H Beef Club holds its first meeting of year

The 2009 4-H year is off to a great start.

On April 16, the Eramosa 4-H beef club held its first meeting of the season at leader Allan Wallace’s farm at 7:30pm. This year’s club leaders are Allan Wallace, Scott Bessey, Jeanine Moyer, and Chrissie Schneider.

The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge. The club then proceeded with the elections for president, vice president, secretary and press reporter.

Jordan Taylor was elected club president with Liam Stiles as the vice-president.  Malcolm Lindsay was elected secretary, and Danielle Nyman was as press reporter.

The members spoke about this year’s tasks and projects and received tips on judging from Moyer. Judging classes of livestock and produce is an important aspect of 4-H.  Members rank classes of livestock or produce in order of confirmation and quality, and  provide reasons from memory to justify their placings.

Judging helps to improve public speaking and memory skills, plus self confidence. The club judged and gave reasons for a class of chicken eggs as well as a class of baked goods.

Taylor closed the meeting with the 4-H motto and then the club enjoyed some delicious refreshments courtesy of the Wallaces.

The next meeting will be held on May 14 at 7:30pm, at Allan Wallace’s farm. New members are still welcome; come to the next meeting if interested in joining the Eramosa 4-H Beef Club. For more information on the Eramosa 4-H Beef Club, call Allan Wallace at 519-846-9712.
