Water superintendent Frank Smedley passes away

Frank Smedley, water superintendent for the Town of Erin, passed away at Hospice Wellington on Aug. 28 after a fight against esophageal cancer.

Smedley, 49, of Erin and Hillsburgh, was the father of Mitchell Smedley, son of Irene and John Smedley, and brother of Richard Smedley, Andrew Smedley, Rachel Lauzon and David Smedley.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

“Frank was always a source of positive thoughts and influence throughout his life and short illness,” states Smedley’s obituary.

On Sept. 2 during a special council meeting, chairman councillor John Brennan noted the loss to the “town’s family.”

Brennan said Smedley “was a friend to many in the community and one of the darned nicest people you’d ever meet.”

A come-and-go celebration of Smedley’s life will be held at the Erin Legion on Sept. 6 from 3 to 5pm.

Family members say donations to Hospice Wellington (795 Scottsdale Drive, Guelph, ON, N1G 3R8) would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy. Arrangements entrusted to Butcher Family Funeral Home, Erin, 519-833-2231.
